But before you get started, let's get one thing straight - this is not your average cooking experience. Infusing coconut oil with cannabis requires a little bit of science, a little bit of patience, and a lot of safety and love. So, get ready to become a mad scientist in the kitchen and let's get started!

First things first, you'll need to decarboxylate your cannabis. Don't worry, it's not as complicated as it sounds. Just pop your ground cannabis in the oven and bake it until it's nice and toasty. This will activate the psychoactive properties of the cannabis, ensuring that your infused oil packs a punch. You can read how to do that HERE. This is the most important step so make sure you read this article first.

Welcome back if you jsut read it! Once your Cannabis is good and baked, it's time to melt your coconut oil. We're talking slow and steady, low heat here, folks. Don't get too eager and crank up the heat - we want to avoid burning the oil and losing all that precious potency. More about that below…

Here are the steps to infuse coconut oil with cannabis effectively:

1. Decarboxylate your cannabis:

Decarboxylation is the process of heating cannabis to activate its psychoactive properties. Preheat your oven to 115°C (240°F). Spread your ground cannabis evenly on a baking sheet and bake for 30-40 minutes. This process will convert THCA into THC, which is the compound responsible for the "high" effect. Read more about that process HERE.

2. Melt the coconut oil:

Place your desired amount of coconut oil in a saucepan or double boiler and melt it over low heat until it's completely liquid.

3. Add the decarboxylated cannabis to the coconut oil:

Once the coconut oil is melted, add the decarboxylated cannabis to the saucepan and stir well.

The optimal temperature range for infusing coconut oil with cannabis is between 71-93°C (160-200°F). This temperature range is hot enough to extract the cannabinoids and other beneficial compounds from the cannabis, but not so hot as to cause them to degrade. Do not, and we repeat, do not go above that temperature!

It's important to avoid temperatures that are too high, such as temperatures above 212°F (100°C), which is the boiling point of water. At these temperatures, the cannabinoids in the cannabis can begin to evaporate, reducing the potency of the final product. Additionally, higher temperatures can cause the coconut oil to burn or become rancid, which can affect the taste and quality of the final product.

To ensure that the temperature stays in the optimal range, it's recommended to use a candy thermometer or other kitchen thermometer to monitor the temperature of the mixture throughout the infusion process. Keeping the heat low and stirring the mixture occasionally can also help to prevent burning and ensure that the cannabis is evenly distributed throughout the coconut oil.

4. Simmer the mixture:

Continue heating the mixture over low heat for 2-3 hours at least, stirring occasionally. Be careful not to let the mixture boil or burn. When simmering the cannabis-infused coconut oil mixture, it's important to maintain a consistent low temperature and avoid boiling or burning the mixture.

5. Strain the mixture:

After simmering, remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes. Then, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth to remove the plant material. You have to wait a bit because the oil will still be too hot to handle, wait to long and it solidifies. So timing is everything.

6. Store the infused coconut oil:

Transfer the infused coconut oil to a jar or container and store it in the refrigerator or a cool, dark place.

Keep in mind that the potency of your infused coconut oil will depend on the amount and potency of the cannabis you use, as well as the length of time you simmer it. Start with a small amount of cannabis and test your infused coconut oil in small doses to find your desired potency.

Now that you've got your own homemade cannabis-infused coconut oil, the possibilities are endless! You can use it to make delicious edibles like brownies, cookies, and even gummies. Or, you can simply enjoy it on its own - we won't judge!

But before we part ways, let's leave you with a deep thought to ponder: What is it about the combination of cannabis and coconut oil that makes it such a perfect match? Is it the rich, creamy texture of the oil that complements the earthy flavor of the cannabis? Or is it something more profound - a synergy between two natural elements that creates something greater than the sum of its parts?

We'll leave you to ponder that question as you enjoy your delicious cannabis-infused coconut oil. Just remember to use it responsibly and always start with a small dose to avoid overdoing it.

Happy cooking!
